Eastern University Academy Charter School (EUACS) was founded in 2009 by Eastern University. The educational philosophy of EUACS empowers students to pursue their passion in an early college learning environment while connecting their experience in the real world. The innovative mission of discovery-based learning experience is to develop logical reasoning and critical thinking. As an early college high school, students are afforded the opportunity to enroll in advanced courses at Eastern University. In addition to experiencing the educational stimulation of a college campus atmosphere, they qualify for dual credit, allowing them to graduate high school with college credits completed. In the two 100 percent of our seniors graduated, were accepted to post-secondary institutions, and they received close to $500,000 in scholarship funds. The school was also awarded a Black Male Engagement Grant of $10,000 from the Knight Foundation and received national exposure from the nomination of its CEO, Omar Barlow, as a finalist for the Steve Harvey Neighborhood Award’s Best Community Leader. While we did not win the $30,000 prize, we will certainly be able to capitalize on the positive media attention our school has received.
